Words While You Cook
The kitchen gives you fifty new words a day without you setting anything up.
Say what you are doing while you do it. Peeling, chopping, boiling, stirring, cooling. Name the vegetables, name the containers, name what things feel like — rough, smooth, hot, cold.
Children pick up words from hearing them used, far more than from being asked to repeat them. So describe rather than quiz. "I am cutting the lauki into small pieces" teaches more than "what is this called?"
Use whichever language is natural to you. Children manage two or three languages comfortably, and hearing rich language in your own tongue helps them in every language they learn.
Let them help with something safe — washing the dhania, putting the rotis in the box — and the words attach to something they did.
