One small bowl
Light Suji Porridge
From eight months, once wheat has been introduced on its own without any trouble.
What you need
- 2 tbsp fine suji (semolina)
- 1 tsp ghee
- 3/4 cup water or milk
- 1 tsp jaggery powder, only after 12 months
How to make it
- 1 Roast the suji in the ghee on a low flame for 3 to 4 minutes, until it smells nutty. Do not let it brown.
- 2 Add the water or milk slowly, stirring hard so no lumps form.
- 3 Simmer for 4 to 5 minutes until thick and soft.
- 4 Stir in the jaggery only for a child over one.
- 5 Cool to room temperature before serving.
Swaps
Make it with water instead of milk to keep it dairy-free. Ragi or rice flour porridge is the wheat-free option.
Keeping it
Best fresh. It thickens as it stands — loosen with a little warm water.
