What you need
- 1 cup ready idli batter
- 1/2 tsp oil, for the moulds
- A little melted ghee to brush on, optional
How to make it
- 1 Grease the idli moulds lightly with oil.
- 2 Pour the batter in and steam for 10 to 12 minutes, until a spoon comes out clean.
- 3 Cool completely, then cut each idli into finger-sized strips your child can hold.
- 4 Brush with a little ghee if you like, and serve plain — no chutney at this age.
Swaps
A soft, plain steamed dhokla piece works the same way for an older toddler.
Keeping it
Best eaten the same day. Keep covered in the fridge for a day and steam briefly to soften before serving.
