Simple Curd Rice
From eight months, once dairy has already been introduced without any trouble.
What you need
- 1/2 cup soft cooked rice
- 3 tbsp fresh curd (dahi)
- 2 tbsp milk or water, to loosen
- A pinch of salt, only after 12 months
How to make it
- 1 Cook the rice until it is very soft, then mash it lightly while it is still warm.
- 2 Let it cool completely — hot rice will split the curd.
- 3 Fold in the fresh curd and loosen with the milk or water until it is easy to spoon.
- 4 Add the pinch of salt only if your child is over one, and serve straight away.
Swaps
For a dairy-free version, skip the curd and mix the rice with a little mashed vegetable instead — it is a different dish, not a substitute for curd.
Keeping it
Make it fresh and serve within an hour. Curd rice does not keep well outside the fridge.
